Alberta Venture magazine annually produces
the Fast 50 List -- Alberta's Growth Champions,
listing some of the fastest growing companies in
the province. The intent is to recognize
growth-oriented businesses in Alberta. This list
is produced in partnership with KPMG.
Quote from Article: As the operating entity
behind 4-Way Equipment Rentals, a retail rental
outlet in southeast Edmonton, CERF has more than
justified Wadley’s faith in the enterprise he
took over back in 1998. That year, the company
barely cracked $1 million in sales. Results
steadily improved during the ensuing decade,
with revenues topping $10 million in 2006.
CERF’s lean and trim business model enables the
partnership to hold its own in a field dominated
by such global giants as Hertz and United
Equipment Rentals. It does so, Wadley says, by
“servicing the heck out of our customers,”
residential and commercial builders who rely on
4-Way to supply Bobcats, air compressors, light
towers, portable heaters and tools. By adding a
service/repair component and by branching into
equipment sales, Wadley has been able to extend
his customer base.
But like most small business leaders, he saved
his most creative touches for his 42 member
sales team, introducing a quarterly bonus
schedule, an employee unit purchase plan (for
which the company picks up half the tab) and
unit option plans for all staffers. “It gets
everyone to think like an owner”, says Wadley,
echoing the now familiar WestJet Mantra. “As a
result, our turnover rates are very low”.
